09/21/2022

Recently, in Hanoi, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan - General Director of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) worked with the Mission of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners - CIP from Denmark headed by Mr. Robert Helms – the Member and Director of the New Market Fund offshore wind power (under CIP). At the meeting, the Danish partners proposed that EVN cooperate in developing a number of large offshore wind power projects and the power transmission grid.

Exchanging opinions with Danish partners, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan said that EVN interests very much in developing offshore wind power projects, especially for the North due to there is lack of electricity in this region. The trend of wind power development is also reflected in the draft Power Development Planning VIII (PDP VIII) being submitted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) to the Government for approval.

According to the draft PDP VIII, the offshore wind power capacity of Vietnam expects to reach about 7,000 MW by 2030 and 16,000 MW by 2035. However, the development of large-scale offshore wind power projects is not easy, due to the need to ensure high requirements on technique, security and finance and experience in survey, design, construction and operation.

Mr. Nhan emphasized that EVN can cooperate with CIP and other potential organizations and enterprises in case EVN should be assigned as the project investor and has partners as the financial arrangers and contractors providing services… Thereby, promoting the strengths of the parties, and contributing to the development of the energy market in Vietnam.

The General Director of EVN works with the delegation of CIP.

At the meeting, Mr. Robert Helms expressed his pleasure at the first official working meeting between the two corporations.
Mr. Robert Helms proposed to EVN's General Director the possibility of cooperation in developing a number of large-scale offshore wind power projects and participation in developing the power transmission grid.
